2016 LOOP Verification Highlights

The 7th LCMP and LOOP Labelling Award Ceremony, jointly organized to the LCMP companies and LOOP companies, were held on 19th December 2016 at Zero Carbon Building. Companies celebrated the success of the LCMP and LOOP Company’s carbon performance and share insight on carbon reduction. This year, the LCMP- and LOOP-accredited companies collectively avoided over 140 thousand tonnes of carbon emissions, which is equivalent to 6 millions trees one year to absorb this amount of carbon.

This year, the management office of Landmark North became the first ever “net zero carbon office” in LOOP history. Landmark North achieved carbon neutrality at their office by significantly driving down their energy use and then for the unavoidable energy they use, contributing to three different Gold Standard carbon offset projects, showing their strong commitment to minimizing their environmental footprint. Apart from offsetting unavoidable carbon emissions, they also built a Climate Change Education Centre, allowing school students and community members in North District to learn what they can do to combat climate change.

In a continuing effort to inspire more low-carbon staff engagement activities, WWF designed the Zero Carbon Roadmap to share the different implementations on minimizing footprint, also allowing them to determine where to implement and what practices to adopt to become a zero-carbon office. For more details, please refer to 2016 LOOP Verification Highlights.

To further achieve “zero carbon emission”, in aspect of supporting renewable energy development, WWF has brought an innovative idea for companies to cut their own emissions. WWF launched Hong Kong’s first Renewable Energy Certificate (REC). Certificates were issued to support the Tai O solar PV systems and six companies have applied for it. Successful applicants will be allocated a fixed amount of renewable energy quota, which guarantees that the electricity allocated comes from local renewable energy source. WWF believes that creating a net zero carbon roadmap and supporting the development of local renewable energy are both crucial to the success of businesses in the era of climate change.

The success of the award ceremony depends on the effort of all companies. We look forward to achieve greater carbon reduction in next year and welcome new company to join LCMP and LOOP. Thank you for your support.

In order to improve the quality on LCMP and LOOP labelling award ceremony, we are now inviting participants to give some feedbacks. It only takes 1-2minutes. Thank you.
